چکیده

A very fast Jacobi-like algorithm for the parallel solution of symmetric eigenvalue problems is proposed. It becomes possible by not focusing on the realization of the Jacobi rotation with a CORDIC processor, but by applying approximate rotations and adjusting them to single steps of the CORDIC i Igorithm, Le., only one angle of the CORDIC angle sequence defines the Jacobi rotation in each step. This angle can be determined by some shift, add and compare operations. Although mly linear convergence is obtained for the most simple version of the new algorithm, the overall operation count (shifts and adds) decreases dramatically. A slow increase of the number of involved CORDIC angles during the runtime retains quadratic Iconvergence.

A Parallel Performance Study of Jacobi-like Eigenvalue Solution

In this report we focus on Jacobi like resolution of the eigen-problem for a real symmetric matrix from a parallel performance point of view: we try to optimize the algorithm working on the communication intensive part of the code. We discuss several parallel implementations and propose an implementation which overlaps the communications by the computations to reach a better eeciency. We show t...

A One-Sided Jacobi Algorithm for the Symmetric Eigenvalue Problem

A method which uses one-sided Jacobi to solve the symmetric eigenvalue problem in parallel is presented. We describe a parallel ring ordering for one-sided Jacobi computation. One distinctive feature of this ordering is that it can sort column norms in each sweep, which is very important to achieve fast convergence. Experimental results on both the Fujitsu AP1000 and the Fujitsu VPP500 are repo...

A parallel additive Schwarz preconditioned Jacobi-Davidson algorithm for polynomial eigenvalue problems in quantum dot simulation

We develop a parallel Jacobi-Davidson approach for finding a partial set of eigenpairs of large sparse polynomial eigenvalue problems with application in quantum dot simulation. A Jacobi-Davidson eigenvalue solver is implemented based on the Portable, Extensible Toolkit for Scientific Computation (PETSc). The eigensolver thus inherits PETSc’s efficient and various parallel operations, linear so...

An efficient method for computing eigenvalues of a real normal matrix

Jacobi-based algorithms have attracted attention as they have a high degree of potential parallelism and may be more accurate than QR-based algorithms. In this paper we discuss how to design efficient Jacobi-like algorithms for eigenvalue decomposition of a real normal matrix. We introduce a block Jacobi-like method. This method uses only real arithmetic and orthogonal similarity transformation...

A hexagonally connected processor array for Jacobi-type matrix algorithms∗

Indexing terms : Parallel algorithms, systolic arrays, matrix computation Jacobi-type matrix algorithms are mostly implemented on orthogonally connected processor arrays. In this letter, an alternative partitioning is described, resulting in a grid of hexagonally connected processors. This partitioning is shown to be over four times more efficient, as compared to the original configuration. Int...
